Universities

Universities in Australia are ‘self-accrediting institutions’. This means they are able to design and approve their own courses, and award degrees and other qualifications. How come they are their own bosses? Because most western societies have grown up hand-in-hand with universities which means unis are a crucial part of the system. Unis represent the establishment and power. The world is more or less organised and run by people who went to university. That means university-taught systems of thinking and research dominate our world.
